Firefighters extinguish blaze on Suburban Drive

Suffolk Fire & Rescue personnel extinguished a fire at a Suburban Drive business Thursday morning.
The scrap metal fire was reported in the 200 block of Suburban Drive at Suffolk Recycling at 8:39 a.m., according to a city press release.
Battalion Chief David Harrell said the first unit arrived on scene at 8:47 a.m., according to the release. Heavy black smoke and flames were showing from the exterior crushing operation involving scrap cars.
No structures were involved, and there were no injuries, according to the release. The fire was marked under control at 9:31 a.m. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental.
Suffolk Police Department assisted with traffic control, and a portion of the roadway was closed during the incident.
