New Year’s baby an early arrival

Long after most couples were winding down their New Year’s Eve celebrations, Tiara Boykins and Daniel Boone were just getting started.
Just hours after coming home from ringing in 2017 at church, Daniel and Tiara were making an unexpectedly early visit to the Sentara Obici Hospital Women’s Center.
At 2:17 p.m. Jan. 1, Daelyn Chase Boone popped into the world, becoming the Obici’s first baby of 2017, according to Hattie Boone, director of Obici’s Women’s Center. Daelyn weighed 6 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 inches long. He was born, coincidentally enough, in Room 317.
“I think it’s pretty exciting that he’s a New Year’s baby,” said Tiara, adding that her due date had been Jan. 18. Once they get home, she is thinking about having a special outfit made to celebrate his special delivery date.
“We certainly weren’t expecting him quite this early … but we are glad he’s here and healthy. It’s an awesome blessing.”
Daelyn’s brother, Djuan Boone, 13, and older sisters, Taylor Boone, 11, and Hailee Boone, 1, are looking forward to meeting their new baby brother, Tiara added.
Tiara and Daelyn were discharged on Wednesday.
