It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our loved one Catherine Jordan Gates. Catherine entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017.

She was the daughter of the late Sim T. and Mary E. Jordan.

She graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1968. She retired after 30 years as a phlebotomist/lab technician in July 2015.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Dorothy Selene Coley and brother Sim Earl Jordan.

She lovingly leaves behind three daughters, Sonya Jordan of Warner Robbins, Ga., Chiquita Staggs (Michael) of Virginia Beach, and Nikkia Jordan (Marvin Kelly) of Suffolk; six grandchildren, Ashley Williams, Ravin Jordan, Tionna Foster, Shakirea Foster, Marvin Kelly Jr., and Malayhia Kelly; three sisters, Evelyn M. Godette of Warner Robbins, Ga., Sylvia L. Fields of Newport News and Connie S. Jolly of Lanham, Md.; three brothers, James Jordan of Suffolk, Vernon T. Jordan (Ruth) of Passaic, N.J. and Edward J. Jordan (Sherry) of Suffolk. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, along with a very neighbor and special friend of the family, Warrnie L. Harris.

A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. on Friday at Pleasant Union Baptist Church. She will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
