Public hearing on bridge postponed

Due to inclement weather, the Virginia Department of Transportation has postponed a public hearing on the South Quay Bridge project a week.

The hearing is now scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Southampton County Office Center, 26022 Administrative Center Drive, Courtland.

VDOT has scheduled the public hearing to present its proposed plan for the replacement of the South Quay Bridge on State Route 189, over the Blackwater River between Suffolk and Southampton.

During the hearing, citizens will have the opportunity to review the project exhibits on display, meet with VDOT representatives and provide input. This will be an open-house format meeting with no formal presentation.

Citizens may provide oral and written comments at the hearing or submit them by Jan. 30 to Wali Zaman, P.E., Virginia Department of Transportation, 1700 North Main St., Suffolk, or via email to wali.zaman@vdot.virginia.gov.

Commenters should include “South Quay (Route 189) Bridge Replacement Comment” in the subject line.
