Cavs lose to Wilson at showcase

Lakeland High School’s boys’ basketball team lost to Wilson High School last Saturday in the King’s Fork Showcase.
The loss was their 11th on the year. Lakeland was one of the four Suffolk teams that lost during the showcase. Unforced turnovers seemed to be the problem for the Cavs.
“I give credit to Wilson to the type of defense that they played,” Cavs coach Clint Wright said. “We didn’t do well shooting from the free throw line. We had some untimely turnovers that we couldn’t recover from.”
Wright believes that the environment may have played a factor in the turnovers. Lakeland was playing on a neutral court but was still able to have support from fans within the city. Playing in front of friends and family could have created a little soft pressure for the Cavs to perform.
“I can see that our kids wanted to perform well,” Wright said. “Their intentions were good. Unfortunately we weren’t able to play as well as we wanted.”
Lakeland will play Churchland on the road Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m.
