Saints take loss to Norfolk Collegiate

The NSA boys’ basketball team fell to Norfolk Collegiate Tuesday night at home.
Norfolk Collegiate went home with a 65-52 win. This was the second loss in a row for the Saints, and it puts them at 5-8 for the season.
After the first quarter of play, NSA held a 13-12 lead and going into halftime the game was tied. Norfolk Collegiate scored 19 and 23 points, respectively, in each of the last two quarters to give them the win.
Saints coach Lamont Strothers indicated that the game was closer than what the final score showed.
“At the half, we were tied, and then they make a run on us in the third quarter,” Strothers said. “I think experience has been the difference for us in the last two games.”
D.J. White led the team in scoring with 15 points, and Resean White added 10 points.
Most of the teams NSA have faced lately have been upperclassmen-heavy, which means they have been long on experience. NSA has a younger roster.
Strothers said NSA gets better by playing teams with older players. And he said NSA hasn’t been out of any of the games they have lost. Most have been four- or five-point losses.
“We are in games,” Strothers said. “It’s all about getting the guys to understand time and score. That’s come with experience. Sometimes we are playing really fast in places where we should slow down. In their minds, they may think they are slowing down, which is the result of youth.”
