Last weekend the Nansemond Volleyball Club team traveled to Raleigh to play in a huge tournament in which they placed second out of 36 teams.
The 2017 City of Oaks Challenge tournament in Raleigh featured teams from all over the East Coast. NVC was one of 36 teams in the 15s division.
Coming into the tournament, the team was seeded 14th. During the course of the three-day event, the team totaled a record of eight wins and the championship loss.
Nansemond-Suffolk Academy volleyball coach Robyn Ross coaches the club team, and she was proud of how the team performed in their first tournament of the season. The team is made up of 10 girls from five different schools
“I am really excited about this start,” Ross said. “These girls are from different schools, so they do not get to play together all year around. They only started practicing in December, so to have this good of a showing at the first tournament is really encouraging.”
