The Nansemond River High School girls’ basketball team will play Hampton High School Friday in the Lady Warriors’ annual breast cancer awareness game.
The two teams will meet in a Conference 10 matchup, with Hampton coming in as the first place team in the conference with a 14-1 record. Fans are encouraged to wear pink, and both teams will have on pink gear as well.
At halftime of the varsity girls’ game, four breast cancer survivors will be recognized and honored. In addition, Friday is a pink day, with faculty, staff and students wearing pink as a symbol of unity in the fight against breast cancer.
“The girls’ basketball program at Nansemond River wishes to contribute along with thousands of other organizations in the fight against breast cancer,” Lady Warriors coach R. Calvin Mason Sr. said in a statement. “Our ultimate goal is to become a greater part of the fight against breast cancer as we raise awareness and educate students, faculty, staff and our school community as a whole.”
The game begins at 7:15 p.m.
