Willie Delson Baker

Willie Delson Baker, 60, was born on Nov. 27, 1956, in Suffolk, to the late Willie Thomas Baker Jr. and Lizzie Baker Goodman. He departed this life on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was predeceased by his stepfather, Elder Linwood Goodman; his two sisters, Joyce B. Harris and Trina D. Artis; and grandson, Jayden Frink.

Willie, affectionately called “June,” graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1978. He later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, then pursued a career with Newport News Shipbuilding.

Willie is survived by his wife, Sandra Williams-Baker; children, Latashia Baker-Hardison (Marquise), June Baker, Niketa Baker-McDonald (Clarence), Crystal Baker, Chris Baker (fiancée Kashawanda Lewis), Jakila Higgs, Kiara Barnes (Milton), and a devoted neighborhood “son,” Dan Miller; grandchildren, Jonathan, Ka’rea, Kayden, Samarra, Kayla, Amrina, Jordan, Cameron, Madison, Christian, Uh’Mardre, Shaniyrah and Kamiya; sisters, Mary B. Warren (Robert), Dollie “Cathy” Ricks (Clarence), Anita Baker, Mildred B. Knight (Lewis); stepsisters, Lula G. Wiggins and Ethel G. Horton; stepbrothers, Cleophus and Otis Goodman; and a host of other family and friends.

Mr. Baker’s visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at New Mt. Joy Food for Living Ministries Church, and he will be laid to rest at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
