Lady Saints advance to semifinals

Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s girls’ basketball team defeated Norfolk Academy 48-27 Tuesday evening in the first round of the Tidewater Conference of Independent Schools tournament, advancing them to the semifinals.
NSA is the No. 1 seed and hosted No. 8 seed Norfolk Academy Tuesday night in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The game resulted in a 19-point win for the Saints.
Norfolk Academy had their strongest quarter in the first. At the end of the first quarter, the Saints were up 17-10. Following the first quarter, NSA locked in defensively, limiting the Lady Bulldogs to only eight points. At halftime, NSA led 36-18.
In the second half, the Lady Saints cooled down a bit, scoring only 12 second-half points. Kaylah Brown led the Saints with 18 points, including hitting four three-pointers and shooting 50 percent beyond the arc for the whole night. Kelly Hogan followed with 15 points, as the only two players in double figures for the Lady Saints.
NSA will face Cape Henry in the semifinals at Hampton Roads Academy at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. In the last meeting with Cape Henry, the Lady Saints won 45-38.
