Home destroyed in fire

A home off Crittenden Road was destroyed in a fire Friday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 12:35 p.m. in the 1600 block of Mt. Lebanon Avenue. The first unit arrived on scene at 12:38 p.m.

Firefighters found heavy fire in the attached garage and one side of the residence. The occupant had vacated the home prior to the arrival of firefighters.

The home and garage were declared a total loss, and a residence next door suffered damage from heat exposure.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken by ground ambulance to a hospital for treatment.

One adult was displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The Chuckatuck Volunteer Fire Department responded along with Suffolk Fire and Rescue crews.

The fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.

The 8500 block of Crittenden Road was completely closed for part of the afternoon. Later, crews alternated traffic along one lane of the road.
