Move ahead with intersection work

To the editor:

I am writing in response to a letter (“A fix for this intersection is overdue”) submitted by Michael Jones and printed in the Feb. 22 edition.

I agree with him on the traffic issue at the intersection of Nansemond Parkway and Wilroy Road. I have lived in Suffolk for most of my life, and every time I approach this intersection my anxiety skyrockets, and I feel extremely vulnerable to an accident.

There have been many accidents at this intersection because of its poor design.

I am relieved to know the city is taking into consideration the amount of people that travel these roads daily and that it has proposed a plan to improve the intersection.

However, to eliminate the high number of crashes, the city needs to begin enlarging the lanes now and adding turn lanes. There has been much talk about redesigning the intersection, but I have not noticed any difference when I come home on breaks from James Madison University.

I am concerned for the safety of our community, and I strongly believe the project should begin as soon as possible to prevent even more accidents.
