Corey Fago, a 2016 Nansemond River High School graduate, got his first win as a pitcher for Chowan University against Lock Haven University on Feb. 25.
Fago is a graduate of Nansemond River and is currently a freshman on the Chowan University baseball team. Fago signed with Chowan in May 2016.
Fago pitched in a reliever role against LHU, helping to lead his team to an 11-5 win. He pitched two innings and gave up only one run. The former Warrior’s first college game pitching came against Coker College earlier in the month, in which he pitched three innings and gave up two runs in a Chowan University loss.
His best outing of the season thus far came against Francis Marion University, where he pitched two innings and struck out three batters, tying the team lead for the game. He currently has the best ERA on the team with 1.59.
Chowan University is currently 6-8. Fago was part of a Nansemond River baseball team last year that won the 5A state championship, the first in school history. The next home game will be March 11 against Mansfield University. Nicholas Lees, who played alongside Fago at Nansemond River, is also a freshman on the Hawks team.
