A man was detained at a business on Centerbrooke Lane early Tuesday morning after he ran from the emergency room at Sentara Obici Hospital and allegedly attempted to carjack someone.
It happened about 2:20 a.m., according to city spokeswoman Diana Klink. Suffolk police officers were at the hospital for an emergency custody order, used to temporarily detain possibly mentally ill individuals for assessment and treatment.
The person ran from the hospital with officers in pursuit, Klink stated, and attempted to carjack someone at a business across the street in the 1000 block of Centerbrooke Lane. Officers were able to take the man into custody without further incident, and he was returned to the hospital.
There were no injuries, Klink stated. The man’s name was not released due to the medical nature of the underlying incident, she said.
