Christine Everett Brothers “Polly” Simpson, age 85, of Suffolk, died March 29, 2017, at Lake Prince Woods in Suffolk after several years of declining health. She was the daughter of William Quentin Brothers and Russell Everett Brothers. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, William Quentin Brothers Jr.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Henry Gray Simpson; daughters, Dale Simpson Hall (Jim) and Mary Quentin Simpson Barnes, a son, Henry Gray “Hank” Simpson Jr. (Molly); and five grandchildren, Caroline Simpson Barnes, Nancy Young Simpson, John Quentin Barnes, Ema Dale Simpson and Laura Anne Barnes. She was also survived by a sister, Dale Birdsong; a brother-in-law, Mac Simpson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Longwood College (now Longwood University), she was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church and the Suffolk Literary Club and was a Master Gardener.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017, officiated by the Rev. Myrtle Hatcher at Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 N. Main St., Suffolk, VA 23434. The family will receive friends following the service in the church atrium. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Main Street United Methodist Church, or to a charity of one’s choice.
