Matt Holt, a 2016 graduate of Nansemond River High School, was named Atlantic-10 Conference rookie of the week last week.

The former Warrior and current La Salle University pitcher was also the Big 5 pitcher of the week. The Big 5 includes the power five schools in the Philadelphia area.

In La Salle’s home opener against the University of Delaware, Holt threw six scoreless innings while striking out nine batters. He led the Explorers to a win that advanced them to the Liberty Bell Classic Championship.

Holt, a member of Nansemond River’s state championship-winning team last year, currently has a 2-1 win-loss record as a pitcher at La Salle and has 30 strikeouts on the season.
