A man who was in a wreck that caused his vehicle to crash into a home on Holland Road on Monday has died, according to Suffolk officials.

City spokeswoman Diana Klink stated in an email that John E. Groves, 84, of Suffolk died Friday morning in the hospital as a result of his injuries.

Groves was attempting to make a right turn in his Ford F 150 in the 3300 block of Holland Road at 12:29 p.m. Monday, when his vehicle was struck from the rear by a semi-truck. The impact sent his truck into a nearby residence.

He was assessed and treated on the scene by Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel and was then transported to a local hospital with what officials described at the time as “minor injuries.”

There were no other injuries in the crash.

Klink stated in her press release on Friday that the investigation continues.
