Norma Steele Boyette “Norma Steele” Alphin passed away early on Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the East Pavilion in Franklin. She had previously been a resident at The Village at Woods Edge in Franklin for four years.
She was a native of Isle of Wight County and a daughter of the late George Washington Boyette and Valeria Virginia Pate Lewis. Mrs. Alphin was also predeceased by her husband, John Beverly Alphin, a sister, Cleo Francis Boyette and a grandson, Keith Vann.
Mrs. Alphin worked for Belk’s for 20 years and was a former member of Windsor Christian Church, where she was a member of the Woman’s Fellowship and the choir. She then moved to Mount Carmel Christian Church and then to Franklin Congregational Christian Church, where she was a member of the Woman’s fellowship. Mrs. Alphin was a member of the Walters Home Maker Club.
Norma Steele was a gracious lady and an avid gardener, as well. She loved being outside tending her flowers. She truly had a green thumb. She was also very skilled at floral arranging, as her numerous ribbons from local garden clubs would attest.
Survivors include her daughter, Renea Alphin Vann (Earl) of Franklin; her sons, John Steele Alphin (Debby) of Atlanta, George M. Alphin (Ginny) of Sandy Level, Thomas G. Alphin of Franklin and William Beverly Alphin of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchildren, Melanie Vann, Britt Amos, Emily Farinholt, Grey Alphin and Caroline Alphin, great grand-children, Zeke, Ki, Isla, Miller Rose, Claire and Knox.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Windsor Cemetery with the Dr. Ruffin Alphin and the Rev. James H. Hyatt Jr. officiating.
Memorials may be sent to Hospice of Virginia, Hope Foundation, 2235 Staples Mill Road, Suite 100, Richmond, VA 23220.
