Nansemond-Suffolk Academy senior Delaney Taylor officially signed her National Letter of Intent on Friday to play softball for Guilford College.
Taylor has been committed to the Guilford program for about a year.
When Taylor visited the campus for the first time, she immediately felt like it was home. After talking to the coach, she felt like it was the right move to make.
“I can really see myself thriving there for the next four years,” she said.
Her family played a large part in deciding what is best for her future. She gives her parents credit for much of her success.
“In a lot of ways, they played a larger part than I did,” Taylor said. “Without their support, I wouldn’t have been able to be on a good team or travel to tournaments where colleges can see me play. I wouldn’t have been able to visit Guilford without them. I would be nowhere near where I am today without them.”
Guilford is 28-11 on the season, so Taylor will be stepping into a good situation.
Taylor had interest from other schools and even visited some, but none felt like Guilford at the end of the day. Her goal is to come in the fall and work hard to start at second base for the Lady Quakers. Mentally Taylor has already been preparing herself for the position and knows nothing will come easy.
At Guilford, she will be double-majoring in health sciences and exercise and sports sciences.
Right now, Taylor is enjoying her senior season at NSA, where the Lady Saints are currently 14-2 and ranked No. 2 in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division-II poll.
