Anna Cardell Porter

Mother Anna Cardell Porter transitioned peacefully from earth to glory on Friday, April 28, 2017. She was born on March 30, 1937, in Nansemond County, to the late James Henry Golden and Mary White Golden. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Golden and Martha Golden, and one brother, Hershey Golden.

Cardell was employed at National Linen Service until she retired.

She was a long-time member of New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance, where she served as a member of the Mothers Board, Senior Ushers, the Pastor’s Aide and Willing Workers.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Samuel Porter; two sons, Willie Golden Sr. and Thomas Golden Sr., of Suffolk; five daughters, Susie Golden, Dorothy Armstrong (Kenneth), Virginia Hamlin, Jean Golden and Gwen Bond, all of Suffolk; four stepchildren, Julite Davis, of New York, Laverne Kindred, of Atlanta, Ga., Tony Kindred, of Florida, and Jeffrey Johnson, of Suffolk; one brother, Elder William Golden (Gertrude), of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Martha Ralph, Mary Towns and Gracie Wilson, all of Suffolk; two sisters-in-law, Della Washington and Josephine Harris, both of Baltimore, Md.; goddaughters, Latora Brown (Steven) and Venora White, both of Suffolk; 18 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Porter visitation will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. A celebration of life service will take place at 1 p.m. on Thursday at New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance, and she will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
