Nansemond-Suffolk Academy’s baseball team defeated Hampton Roads Academy 12-2 on the road Tuesday afternoon.

The Saints earned their 12th win of the season with the game, picking back up where they left off after their 5-0 victory last Saturday. The Saints’ biggest inning came in the fourth, where they put up six runs.

Senior Mitchell Williams went 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Kieran Conway went 3-4 with two runs scored and an RBI. The Saints remain tied for fifth in the VISAA Division II state poll.

As a team, they don’t focus on the rankings they just focus on what is in front of them. “We talk about it a little bit but not every day,” NSA coach David Mitchell said. “We talk about winning innings and our day-to-day grind. We try not to look at things too far in advance. We talk all the time about being today driven instead of destination driven.”

With a young team this year, Mitchell didn’t want to put that kind of pressure on his team. With NSA playing three games in four days, it will be substantial for the pitching staff to remain strong. Mitchell feels that if the pitching remains consistent, it will give the Saints a chance to be successful this week.

NSA will play Isle of Wight Academy on the road at 4:30 p.m. Friday.
