Evonne McKelvin

Evonne McKelvin, 79, of 4057 Deer Path Road, Suffolk, transitioned on Friday, May 5, 2017, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late John Delk and Ion Hollimon. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Delk.

She was a graduate of Westside High School in Newark, N.J., and attended the Business School of Newark. She retired as a claims examiner for Blue Cross Blue Shield. She was also a nursing assistant and substitute teacher for Suffolk Public Schools. She was a member of Chapel Grove United Church of Christ in Windsor.

She leaves to cherish her memory John Charles McKelvin; two daughters, Sheila Jackson-McCrea (Chip), of Herndon, and Michele Evonne Jackson, of Suffolk; one sister, Harriet Trent, of Somerset, N.J.; brother, Richard Delk, of Coumden, Del.; three grandchildren, Jerome Jackson Jr., Ashlee Jackson and Ethan T. McCrea; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Delk, of Conyers, Ga., and Willie Mae of Camden, Del.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Chapel Grove United Church of Christ, 7366 W. Blackwater Road, Windsor, VA 23487. The Rev. H. Carlyle Church will deliver the eulogy. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home Inc.
