Virgie B. Alston-Rodgers

Virgie B. Alston-Rodgers, 80, was born to the late Earnest E. Banks and Maude Copeland Banks in Nansemond County (now Suffolk).

She was a member of Laurel Hill United Church of Christ, where she was actively involved in different ministries. She was also active at Pulaski Baptist Church, where she was also first lady.

Virgie was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc., Epsilon Theta Zeta Chapter in Suffolk; Ministers Wives and Widows of Tidewater; and past president of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Sharon Baptist Association.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Rodgers; two daughters; one son; three sisters; one brother; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two aunts; one uncle; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A funeral will be held at noon Tuesday at Laurel Hill United Church of Christ. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
