SCCA opens camp registration

The Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts will be alive with music, theater and the arts this summer during four week-long camps for students.
Art Camp will be held June 19-23 for students in grades one through seven. Registration closes June 12.
In partnership with Young Audiences of Virginia, campers will learn the fundamentals of drawing, painting, sculpture and collage. Students will create artwork daily and curate a final exhibition for the final day. Camp hours will be from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and lunch and snacks are provided.
New this year is Music Sampler Camp. Students will sample five different instruments, in addition to participating in vocal music, and will present a concert on the last night.
Music Sampler Camp will be held July 17-21 for grades three through eight. Registration closes on July 10. Campers will need to bring a bag lunch, but healthy snacks will be provided. Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Theatre Camp, set for Aug. 7-11, is for students in grades one through seven.
Students will take classes in the fundamentals of theatre, costume design, set design and more. Working in partnership with Young Audiences of Virginia, students will develop their own scenes for a final performance at the end of the week.
Camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and a healthy lunch and snacks will be provided. Theatre Camp registration closes Aug. 1.
STEAM Back to School Bootcamp returns this year, from Aug. 28 to Sept. 1 for students in grades one through six.
The Suffolk Center and Sylvan Learning will help students uncover exciting STEAM topics, such as Lego robotics and Lego engineering. They will explore the world of video gaming using video coding language and will improve their problem-solving skills through fun and challenging math concepts taught using the arts and movement.
Campers will need to bring a bag lunch, but healthy snacks will be provided. Camp sessions are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration closes on Aug. 21.
