Joseph Edward Briggs entered eternal rest, quietly and peacefully, on May 16, 2017, with his loving wife by his side. He was born in Norfolk on Oct. 24, 1931, to the late Joseph C. and Hattie M. Briggs.

A visitation will take place from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, at the funeral home. A funeral will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, and he will receive military honors at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
