Teens arrested in thefts

Suffolk police this week have arrested seven juveniles from other cities suspected of thefts from vehicles, according to a city press release.

During the early morning hours of Monday, officers saw two male subjects tampering with a vehicle and pulling door handles in the 3200 block of Prices Fork Boulevard in the Hampton Roads Crossing neighborhood, according to the press release.

The two got into a silver vehicle and left the scene, turning onto Respass Beach Road and going to the end of the neighborhood. They were then observed coming out of the neighborhood at a high rate of speed, according to the release.

Officers pursued the vehicle into Portsmouth, and it ended with the suspects exiting the vehicle on foot in the 100 block of Douglas Road in Portsmouth. Officers were able to apprehend both of the suspects.

Portsmouth officers were also involved in the pursuit, and the suspect vehicle caused more than $7,000 worth of damage when it struck a boat trailer on Bay Circle, according to the release.

The involved vehicle was found to be stolen out of Portsmouth, according to the release. Both of the suspects were 16 years old and reside in Portsmouth.

One of the juveniles was charged with felony hit and run, destruction of property, conspiracy to commit larceny, possession of stolen property, trespass into a motor vehicle, reckless driving and drive without a license. The second juvenile was charged with conspiracy to commit larceny, trespass into a motor vehicle and fail to report an accident.

During the early morning hours on Wednesday, officers were called to the 500 block of Kilby Shores Drive after an observant neighbor contacted police about several individuals tampering with motor vehicles. Officers arrived on scene and saw a dark-colored Acura fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. The officers did not chase the vehicle but set up a perimeter around the neighborhood and canvassed for the vehicle and suspects, according to the release.

The vehicle was abandoned in the 200 block of Kilby Shores Drive with its doors open. A K-9 unit responded and tracked the suspects, and five juveniles ages 16 to 17, all from Norfolk, were arrested.

The investigation is ongoing, but charges pending on each of the juveniles in the Kilby Shores neighborhood include four counts of theft from a motor vehicle, four counts of conspiracy to commit theft from a motor vehicle, tampering with motor vehicle, conspiracy to commit tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of stolen vehicle and conspiracy to possess a stolen vehicle. Several will also be charged with possession of stolen property and possession of stolen credit cards, according to the release.
