Ernestine Brooks Edmondson

Ernestine Brooks Edmondson, born on Jan. 27, 1929, passed away peacefully on May 28, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest T. and Laura A. Brooks, and the father of her children, Earl L. Edmondson.

She graduated from Richmond Professional Institute with a degree in chemistry. She continued her education while being a wife and mother to obtain master’s degrees in education and library Science.

Ernestine was retired from the Chesapeake Public Library after a career of many years being surrounded by her beloved books. She enjoyed her retirement with her grandchildren, senior clubs, traveling, master gardeners and all of her plants and flowers.

She was a kind and gentle lady who inspired all of those that love her to be the best that they could be.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister, Isabelle B. Duke; son, Richard Edmondson and his wife, Elysia; daughters, Laura Solomon and her husband, Bob, Janice Locher and her husband, Michael; and her grandchildren, William, Andrew, Christopher, Arden and Hunter, who loved her as “GaGa.”

A service to celebrate her life will be held at her lifelong church, Bethel United Methodist Church, 1981 Cardwell Road, Oilville, VA 23129, with burial in the family cemetery at the church on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 1 p.m.

A memorial service will be held at Lake Prince Woods Retirement Home in Suffolk on Friday, June 9, 2017, at 2 p.m.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Lake Prince for loving her and becoming part of her family.
