One man was seriously injured Friday night in a two-vehicle accident in the 5000 block of Bennetts Pasture Road.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at the intersection of Bennetts Pasture and Pintail Drive at 9:22 p.m., according to a city press release.

They found that a Volkswagen Jetta had been traveling toward Bridge Road on Bennetts Pasture when the driver crossed over the center line, overcorrected and then struck the passenger side of a Ford Expedition, Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink said in the release.

The male driver of the Jetta, the only occupant of that vehicle, had to be extracted from the car. He received emergency medical assessment and treatment and was taken by ambulance to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with what officials said were serious injuries.

Neither the driver nor the passenger of the Expedition were injured.

The accident remains under investigation.
