Nansemond River High School girls’ basketball player Tashira Burch will play her college ball at Goldey-Beacom College.

The Lady Warriors continue to send players to college, with Burch only the most recent. She will play at Goldey-Beacom College, a NCAA Division II school in Delaware. Burch makes the third signee for the Lady Warriors, along with Cassidy Simmons and Nijah Shannon.

Burch, who averaged 12 points per game this year, liked the atmosphere and how she could fit in. The recruiting process was stressful, as she wanted to find a school that had her major of choice and coaching style.

“I like the atmosphere, and I feel the transition will be easy for me,” she said. “With the coaching style of coach Burke, I think I could succeed there.”

Burch also liked how GBC coach Bethann Burke wants to see her succeed just as much off the court as on it. She plans to major in sports management.

The Lady Warrior was a part of a three-guard backcourt that was able to create mismatches for many of the opponents Nansemond River played. It helped lead Nansemond River to a PenSouth regular season title. Burch was proud of the season, as well as her teammates being able to play in college.

“I think the season went pretty good,” she said. “I think we grew as a team and competed hard. So many of us being able to play in college is a credit to the work we put in. Our coaches have been a huge help in making us better.”

At the next level, Burch believes her work ethic will help make her successful. She has a mindset that she wants to stay in the gym every day to get better. Every time she steps on the floor, she wants to give it her all.

Goldey-Beacom went 17-12 last season. Burch was an All-PenSouth second team player.
