An 18-year-old man was injured when he was shot while walking in the 400 block of Smith Street on Wednesday evening.

Officers were called to the scene at 6:28 p.m. and found that the victim had “sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound in what police believe was not a random incident,” according to a press release from Suffolk spokeswoman Diana Klink.

The victim was treated at the scene by Suffolk Fire and Rescue and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was treated and released, Klink stated.
