Sarah Jean Stalls passed away June 22, 2017, at age 80.

Born Sarah Jean Thompson to parents Otis and Imogene Thompson of Gastonia, N.C., she married her love, Bill, on New Year’s Eve 1955 before moving to Suffolk, where they raised their three children.

Sarah and Bill spent their early retirement years exploring North America in their motor home, taking special care to send their grandchildren postcards along the way.

A woman of great talent, she joyfully shared her crocheted crafts, which will forever warm the homes of the ones she loved.

She is survived by her husband William A. “Bill” Stalls; three children, Katherine J. Holland, Julie Snow (Raymond), and Russell Stalls (Nicole); six grandchildren, Rebecca J. Gilley (William), Fred E. Holland Jr. (Elizabeth), Holly Hearl, Jim Hearl, Dustin Stalls (Brooke) and Shane Stalls; three great-grandchildren, Nora J Gilley, Vivian M. Holland and Lexi Stalls; three sisters, Linda Dodgen (Tom), Becky Hunsinger (John), Nancy Downing and sister-in-law Jean Thompson.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her bother, Lt. Col. Donald Thompson, a brother-in-law, Fred Downing, and a son-in-law, Fred E. Holland.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at R.W. Baker Funeral Home in Suffolk.
