Nine displaced in fire

A fire early Monday morning displaced three adults and six children from their downtown home.
The fire in the 100 block of Clay Street was reported at 2:08 a.m. The first units arrived on scene at 2:13 a.m. The residents had evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.
Crews found heavy fire on the back porch of the two-story residence, with some extending into the residence, according to a city press release.
The fire was called under control at 2:39 a.m. There were no injuries. The nine residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
