The S. Delois Mayes Scholarship Foundation awarded scholarships to six of 12 applicants this year, totaling $10,000 awarded.

• The scholarship recipients are:
• Savannah Miller, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Dartmouth College ($3,000)
• Kamarie Jewette, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend George Mason University ($2,000)
• Lawrence D. Smith Jr., a King’s Fork High School graduate who will attend Virginia Commonwealth University (Rosie Ellis-Fields Scholarship, $2,000)
• Trever Armstrong, a Nansemond River High School graduate who will attend Norfolk State University ($1,500)
• Master Turntine, a Nansemond River High School graduate ($750)
• Keshawn Skinner, a Lakeland High School graduate who will attend North Carolina A&T State University ($750)
