A Suffolk woman and her husband were arrested following an altercation with police in Franklin on Friday when officers there attempted to apprehend her for outstanding warrants.
Capt. Tim Whitt, spokesman for the Franklin Police Department, reported that local officers learned that Erin Marie McCuiston, 32, of 6057 Knotts Creek Lane was in the Southampton Memorial Hospital emergency room, and went there to arrest her on outstanding charges at approximately 8:28 a.m.
Whitt said the woman resisted arrest and tried to escape, and as police were taking her into custody, her husband, Jeremy McCuiston, began to interfere and obstruct the officers, one of whom suffered a minor injury during the incident.
Erin McCuiston was remanded to Western Tidewater Regional Jail without bond. Jeremy McCuiston, 35, was released on a $5,000 bond.
Police charged Erin McCuiston with a capias/probation violation; the original charge of statutory burglary; and additional charges of destruction of property, obstruction of justice, provide false identity and assault and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Jeremy McCuiston was charged with obstruction of justice and carrying a concealed razor knife.
