Suffolk library personnel will showcase local services this weekend for residents that want to improve their health.

The Suffolk Health and Fitness Fair will be held at the North Suffolk Library, 2000 Bennetts Creek Park Road, this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. All ages are welcome to check out the fitness activities and vendors with no admission cost.

Community services librarian and organizer Amy Brunson said the event is part of the library’s year-long “Big Idea Initiative” and was inspired by library visitors that expressed interest in being healthier this year.

“We just want to give people the information and resources that they need to become better versions of themselves, and we want to show them the resources that they have in Suffolk,” Brunson said.

Fifteen-minute fitness classes will be held in the morning by vendors such as Anytime Fitness Suffolk, C-FIT Studio, Savior Martial Arts — West, Triple T Sports Center and YMCA of South Hampton Roads. Each class is reflective of the location’s distinct services.

“They’re going to be shortened versions of what you see at the businesses,” Brunson said.

Children will enjoy games of balloon tennis, lift toy weights and play motion sensitive video games on-site. There will also be a green-screen for pictures with exciting backgrounds, and a table filled with healthy snacks.

“We really want to showcase the health and wellness resources in this area, and let people know what’s available to them,” Brunson said.
