Man indicted on murder charge

A Chesapeake man has been indicted on multiple felony charges stemming from an April homicide in Magnolia Lakes Trailer Park.

Troyonne Markest Ellis Sr., 28, was indicted by the grand jury Monday on charges of first- and second-degree murder, burglary, firearms charges and more in the April 25 shooting of 26-year-old Tyrone Bailey.

According to a warrant filed in Suffolk Circuit Court, a woman called 911 that morning and said someone had come in the back door of her trailer at the Nansemond Parkway complex. The man fought with Bailey, her boyfriend, before shooting him. A firearm was found at the scene.

The woman identified Ellis, the father of her child, as the shooter, according to the warrant.

Bailey died in the ambulance on the way to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, according to the court documents. An autopsy showed Bailey died of a gunshot wound to the chest and had been struck in the head with an object before the shooting.

Ellis was one of 33 defendants indicted on 109 charges Monday.

Another of the defendants, 18-year-old Camren Lamar Artis, was indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving and texting while driving in connection with a fatal crash in April.

The three-vehicle crash happened about 7:49 p.m. in the 6400 block of Godwin Boulevard. Duke Fletcher Doyle, 57, died in the wreck.
