The city of Suffolk is getting revved up for the 2017 rendition of National Night Out, set for this Tuesday.
The national event, sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, encourages people to turn on their porch lights, lock their doors and get outside to get to know their neighbors and present a united front against crime. Millions of people in 16,000 communities across the United States, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide participate in National Night Out every year.
Various neighborhoods and communities will hold activities such as cookouts, ice cream socials, flashlight parades, block parties, contests and more. A caravan of city and law enforcement officials will visit the various communities to meet and greet residents and forge relationships.
The year-long theme for this year is “Lock It, Don’t Lose It,” encouraging people to keep their home and car doors locked.
