James Edward Worrell

James E. Worrell passed away at his home on Aug. 2, 2017. He was born on May 29, 1922, in Nansemond County. He is predeceased by his parents, Harvey L. Worrell Sr. and Lillian G. Worrell; wife, Melean P. Worrell; brother, Harvey L. Worrell Jr.; and sister, Francis Williams.
He is survived by daughter, Yvonne W. Felton (Allen); and his son, Donald Worrell (Roseland); grandchildren Vicki Alheit (Guy), Jim H. Felton (Gracie), Justin D. Worrell (Lisa), and Joshua Worrell (Jennifer); great-grandchildren, Shea, Sam, Kaitlyn, Abigail, Cameron, Chloe, Zoie and Jayden; sisters, Ellen Francis and Irene Tolan; and several nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Marie Mumford, his faithful caregiver.
He was a graduate of Holland High School and was married 63 years to the love of his life, Melean. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, worked at Union Camp and retired from farming. He was a lifelong member of Holy Neck Christian Church, 71-year member of the Holland Ruritan Club, and spent 56 years in the McAllister Masonic Lodge No. 185.
A visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at R.W. Baker Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk. A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Holy Neck Christian Church, 4400 Holy Neck Road, Suffolk, VA 23437, with the Rev. Norman March officiating. Burial will follow the service at Holland Cemetery with Masonic rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Holy Neck Christian Church.
