Police are investigating an accident involving a youth on a bicycle struck by a pickup truck on Monday afternoon.

The accident happened in the 3400 block of Carolina Road and was reported at 1:06 p.m., according to a city press release. The driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck remained on scene.

Preliminary investigation shows the juvenile, believed to be 12 to 15, was attempting to cross the roadway at the intersection of Cypress Chapel Road and Carolina Road when the accident occurred.

The victim was airlifted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed immediately following the accident, and officers then alternated traffic while they continued their on-scene investigation.
