On Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, James Elmer Barnes Jr., of McDonough, Ga., received his crown of peace and invitation to join the heavenly angels after wrestling with stomach cancer. A proud alumnus of Tennessee State University and Suffolk High School, James worked for Georgia Power for 33 years, with a large portion of his tenure as a senior electrical engineer. A faithful member of Zion Hill Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga., James loved his church family and singing in the Zion Hill chorale and men’s chorus. He also enjoyed being with family and friends.

James leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughters, Arika and Allison. He is also survived by his two sisters, Cidra Davis (Terry) and Lisa Barnes; brother, Morris Barnes (Monica); nieces, Kristen, Kasey, Kelly and Lisha; nephews, Miles and Mason; as well other loving family and friends. The celebration service will be held at noon, Friday, Aug. 25, 2017, at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan St.
