Coach Rick Hite is making sure he and the King’s Fork High School boys’ volleyball team are taking each day to get better.

Hite was hired to be the replacement for Josh Worrell as the King’s Fork boys’ basketball coach. Not only is Hite coaching basketball, but also he is coaching volleyball as well. The Bulldogs volleyball program will be under new direction for the third time in the last three years.

This fall, Hite has a young and inexperienced volleyball team. However, Hite sees a lot of passion in his team this year. Every day is a learning process for Hite and his team. They are getting to know each other and adjusting to each other. Though Hite knows that this particular phrase is cliché, but he does believe this year is a process. This year, he wants his team to not focus so much on the scoreboard but rather to focus on the growth and strides they’ve made each game.

“One of the things we talk about all the time is the scoreboard may read one thing, but the growth comes in little strides,” Hite said. “I think we are on the path of taking positive steps. I see it every day with these guys.”

The Bulldogs have started off the season 0-2. As a competitor, it easy to get frustrated by the scoreboard, but Hite feels his guys have the right mindset. They understand personally improving their skills will lead to more wins on the scoreboard.

“One of the hardest things for guys their age is not getting caught up in the scoreboard,” Hite said. “As a coach, I always remind the guys that we are doing something well each time we step onto the floor. If you continue to find things to do well, you will show improvement on the score board.”

It’s still early in the season, and the Bulldogs are still figuring out who they are as a group. In the few games the Bulldogs have played, Hite has liked the chemistry the guys have shown.

Gavin Ginn leads the way for the Bulldogs. Hite believes Ginn could be as good as anyone in the state at his position. Role players like freshman Adrian Young also look to add production for the Bulldogs.

King’s Fork will continue to try to get better each game. They will be back in action Tuesday at Deep Creek High School.
