Joe Wesley Alexander

Joe Wesley “Wes” Alexander, 82, went to be with the Lord on Aug. 26, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Jeanette Piland and Leon Alexander.

Wes was a lifelong member of Suffolk Christian Church. He has been retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard for 27 years. In his retirement, he loved to shoot and was an honorary member of the Nansemond-Suffolk Shooting Club. Wes also had become known as the Candle Man throughout the Tidewater area.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne P. Alexander; daughter, Nancy A. Edick; son, Kirk Alexander and wife, Debbie, all of Suffolk; grandchildren, Wesley Alexander and wife, Angie, Johnathan Edick and wife, Katlin, Alex Edick, Mollie Edick and Tiffany Hinkle and husband, Landon; great-grandchildren, Haley Edick, Dustin Reeves, Destiny Reeves, Colten Smith and Maverick Hinkle.

A funeral will be conducted on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, 509 W. Washington St., Suffolk, by the Rev. Michael D. Halley. Burial will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017, from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
