NR baseball league to host cornhole tournament

The Nansemond River Pony Baseball League will have a fund-raising cornhole tournament next Saturday.

The cornhole tournament will be held Sept. 23 at Bennett’s Creek Park, 3000 Bennetts Creek Park Road. D&D Beach Cornhole will manage the tournament, which will be a blind draw round robin play. Registration begins that day at 10 a.m., and bags will fly at 11 a.m. Adult tournament fees will be $25, and kids’ tournament fees will be $15. A cash prize layout will be 75/25 based on player registration. There will be first-, second- and third-place winners for both kids and adults.

It is encouraged that all participants sign up quickly. The first 10 kids who register will receive a ticket for three free games of bowling at AMF Bowling Centers. Also, the first 40 participants will receive a coupon from Chick-fil-A for a free chicken sandwich.

There will be food vendors, beer and wine. Also, an Air Mailbox will be featured, which is a fun way of doing a 50/50 raffle. For $5, entrants will throw eight numbered bags, with the highest score winning half of the pot.

Registration is available in advance at www.nrcornhole.com. Advance sign-ups are requested but not mandatory.
