A North Suffolk golf tournament set for next month will benefit children while providing a slew of dining and entertainment options.
The eighth annual Golf Tournament for the Kids will be held Oct. 4 at Riverfront Golf Club off Harbour View Boulevard. The tournament is organized by Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia with Cox Communication and other partners.
Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with tee-off at 11:30 a.m. Jimmy Johns will provide boxed lunches for golfers, with Outback Steakhouse providing dinner that evening. Buffalo Wild Wings and Chili’s will offer samples of their menu during the event.
The raffle drawing will offer items such as an Amazon Echo, flat-screen televisions and football tickets for Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech games.
All proceeds will benefit Portsmouth Boys and Girls Clubs at Douglass Park, Hodges Manor and Lakeview elementary schools. According to resource development director Anthony Carter, the organization has been able to raise more than $50,000 in each of the past three years thanks to this event.
“It helps us keep the doors open for these clubs,” Carter said. “It’s keeping the kids academically successful, keeping the programs running and making sure they have the materials and supplies they need throughout the year.”
He said about 27 teams showed up to the tournament last year, and that he hopes for a similar turnout this October.
“Come out and have a good time for a great cause,” he said. “All the money that’s raised benefits the youth in the Portsmouth area, keeping them safe and off the streets.”
