Suffolk to welcome Lidl Thursday

The first Lidl grocery store in Suffolk will have its grand opening this Thursday, and customers will be offered incentives to be the first through the door.
Doors will open at 8 a.m. for the North Suffolk store at 1001 Community Drive, after a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 7:40 a.m.
The first 100 customers will each receive a wooden coin for a chance to win up to $100 in Lidl gift cards, while also taking advantage of the special grand opening sales that will last into the weekend.
“It’s a great time to come out and be one of the first people to the store,” said Lidl U.S. spokesman William Harwood. “We are very excited to be opening our first store in Suffolk, and we are committed to delivering the best products at the best prices.”
Lidl is one of the largest grocery chains in Europe, with more than 10,000 stores in 28 countries. The company established its U.S. headquarters in Arlington County in 2015, and it has since announced regional headquarters and distribution centers in Spotsylvania County, Alamance County, N.C., Cecil County, Md. and Bartow County, Ga.
Expectations of increasing population density in the Harbour View area should continue to support retail growth, and according to Harwood, customers will benefit from Lidl’s impact on nearby businesses.
“We’re delighted to be planting roots in Suffolk, and when Lidl comes to town it’s great for customers,” he said. “Lidl is really driving prices down everywhere, because prices near the store also drop. We see this again and again.”
