An online retailer is relocating its distribution center and planning for improvements at its new Suffolk location.
Rock Bottom Golf will relocate its Suffolk distribution center from College Drive to downtown at Moore Avenue. The company is leasing 83,739 square feet of industrial space, according to an Oct. 3 release by S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co.
The relocation will include improved office space and is expected to be finished by Nov. 1, according to director of marketing Brian Schwank, who cited reduced costs and additional warehouse space as the reasons for the move.
“We just needed more space,” Schwank said.
Chief Executive Officer Thomas Rath founded Rock Bottom Golf in 2000 as a discount retailer of golf equipment. Based in Rochester, N.Y., the company has since expanded to offer both inline equipment and in-house brands. Efforts are being made to offer equipment trade-ins and expand selections of used golf clubs, Rath said.
The company moved its warehousing to Suffolk from 25th Street in Norfolk approximately 10 years ago for expanded space. Staffing at Moore Avenue is expected to remain the same with 25 to 30 employees.
According to Rath, the advantage of having a distribution center in Suffolk is “quick delivery to the East Coast, usually in two days or less after ordering.”
Efficiencies at the new location will benefit the company’s growth plans, Schwank said.
“Anything and everything golf is what we’re looking to do,” he said. “We’re just continuing to expand every day and looking for new options for our customers.”
