A Suffolk civic organization of women will hold an evening of dining and bidding to raise scholarship dollars this November.
The Junto’s Women’s Club will hold a “Night on the Town” this Tuesday at St. John’s Parish House on Kings Highway. The club is part of The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, an international women’s organization of volunteers dedicated to community service.
Live music will entertain guests as they enjoy pork tenderloin, meatballs and other cuisine along with tasty beverages. The silent auction will put up a wide array of items for bidding, such as handcrafted art and gift certificates, according to Julie Johnson, head of the silent auction committee.
“One of our members is part of a card-making club, and we’ll have a selection of six cards that she’s made,” Johnson said. “It’s a big variety of items.”
This will be the club’s first major fundraising project of the year, according to a press release. Proceeds will support the club’s $1,000 scholarships that are granted in May to graduating seniors at Suffolk high schools.
“We want people to have a relaxed time and feel like they’re doing something special for students in the city of Suffolk,” said Cheryl Carter, co-chair of the event. “We want them to feel like they’re doing their part in encouraging young people to better themselves and continue their education.”
The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person. Call Cheryl Carter at 686-6944 or Jane Moore at 745-7368 for more information.
