Saints coach Mike Biehl completed his first winning season as the head coach of Nansemond-Suffolk Academy football on Friday.

NSA dominated Hampton Roads Academy 55-13 at home Friday night. The win secured a 6-4 regular season record for the Saints.

“Just another great team win,” Biehl said. “I think we played at a really high level in all three phases of the game. We did a good job limiting their quarterback with what he liked to do. All of our skill groups did a great job out there.”

Robby Tew had a big night for the Saints, completing 8 of 13 passes for 376 yards with a total of six touchdowns, rushing for one and throwing for five. Ehron Knight, Erek Smith and Zac Morris each added more than 100 yards receiving and a touchdown. Knight was in charge of keeping a spy on HRA’s quarterback defensively, and Biehl felt he did a great job.

Biehl believes that it is always good to improve on where you were the year before, but he still believes he has work to do. NSA has not been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs yet, but Biehl prefers to have a spot secured already.

“Unfortunately for me, I am going to think about what we could have done better to be in the driver’s seat when it comes to the playoffs,” he said. “We have still shown we can make a lot of strides. The guys are playing their best football at the end of the season.”

Not only did NSA finish with a winning record but also the Saints also sent their seniors out the right way with a big win. NSA was just outside of the six teams that qualify for the playoffs and is hoping to clinch a berth.
