The Nansemond-Suffolk Academy cross country teams finished sixth and 12th in the state meet.
The girls’ team finished sixth in the state out of 23 teams. Frances Hope was the top runner, finishing 22nd out 220 runners. Coach Karen Norman coached a girls’ team that saw them win multiple meets this season during the regular season. In the TCIS meet, the team finished in third place behind Norfolk Academy and Walsingham Academy.
The boys’ team finished 12th out of 33 teams at the state meet. Jacob Conrod finished 16th out 300-plus runners earning him an all-state selection. They had meets throughout the season where they placed in the top five.
With both teams being so young, the experience competing at a high level this season will help in the future. NSA will also have any younger runners coming up next season who will help.
“I am very excited about next year’s team,” Norman said. “Both the boys’ and girls’ teams were very young this year, and with the runners we have coming up, we should be right in the mix for some top finishes in the future.
