Cover 3 Foundation does its part

Imagine, if you will, 2.5 million meals. Not two, not 2,500, but 2.5 million. That’s a lot of sandwiches. And that number is the newest milestone — or should we say million-stone — for the Cover 3 Foundation. Headquartered in Franklin, the nonprofit’s Kids Meals program has been serving children in Western Tidewater and South Hampton Roads, including Suffolk — and even as far as Petersburg and Richmond — since 2010.

This has not been just a distribution of foods and snacks passed off as filling, but meals that meet state health standards. It’s also part of project dear to the heart of founder Greg Scott: eliminating childhood hunger.

Too often we think that living in the land of plenty means everybody gets to eat. But there are still too many people, children in particular, who do not get enough nutritious food so that they can grow to become healthy in body, mind and soul.
